sagmeister poster Joslyn Barnes is the author or co-author of numerous commissioned screenplays for feature films including the upcoming epic Toussaint, the Indian feature The Cosmic Forest, and the award-winning African film BÀTTU, which she associate produced with British Screen. Since co-founding Louverture Films with actor/activist Danny Glover, Barnes has executive produced such award-winning features as Bamako and Salt of this Sea, the Academy Award nominated theatrical documentary Trouble the Water and the forthcoming The Disappearance of McKinley Nolan. She has also produced the music documentaries Africa Unite and the forthcoming Soundtrack of a Revolution. She recently directed the short film Prana for Cinétévé France as part of an internationally distributed series of 30 short films for environmental awareness.
Prior to co-founding Louverture, Barnes served as an expert consultant and programme officer at the United Nations. She has lived and traveled widely in Africa and Asia, and has written numerous articles covering trade and social development issues, as well as contributing to books on the establishment of electronic communications in developing countries, food security and production in Africa, and strategic advocacy for the inclusion of gender perspectives on the international development agenda. Barnes is a graduate of Cornell University.
